The Ministry of Health has released new Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) guidance for Alert Level 1 in health and disability settings. Thank you to all who have contributed to the development of these documents. This guidance should be used in conjunction with your organisation’s IPC guidance, where available. The documents are available on the Ministry’s website www.health.govt.nz/ppe-health. Please refer to this link for future reference as updates will be made as COVID-19 evolves.  Documents published today include: 1.        Updated – Alert Level 1: Risk assessment questions if COVID-19 status is unknown (11 June 2020)  Link to document ·        This document replaces the most recent Alert Level 2 equivalent – Alert Level 2: Risk assessment questions if COVID-19 status is unknown (29 May 2020) ·        This is a risk assessment for first point of contact with people whose COVID-19 status is unknown. The risk assessment should be undertaken before contact with the person if possible (by phone or signage), otherwise physical distancing of at least 1 m should be maintained while asking the questions, before any Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is used. ·        The Alert Level 1 version has new risk assessment questions that reflect our current low risk COVID-19 environment. Acknowledging this COVID-19 risk environment and that we are coming into a period of winter illnesses, the assessment also specifies a standard IPC approach for interactions with someone who could have a non-COVID-19 acute respiratory illness (i.e. new or worsening respiratory symptoms, however no recent travel history or contact that puts them at risk of COVID-19).   ·        This advice will continue to be updated as needed based on feedback and the evolving COVID-19 context in New Zealand. 2.        Updated – Alert Level 1: Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required when caring for a COVID-19 case (11 June 2020) Link to document ·        This document replaces the Alert Level 2 equivalent – PPE required when caring for a suspected, probable or confirmed COVID 19 case (including for care provided in place of residence) (15 May 2020) ·        It is intended as a high-level reference document when caring for a probable or confirmed COVID-19 case, or someone who is under investigation for COVID-19. If a person’s COVID-19 status is unknown, a risk assessment should be carried out before using any PPE, as per Alert Level 1: Risk assessment questions if COVID-19 status is unknown ·        This advice will continue to be updated as needed based on feedback and the evolving COVID-19 context in New Zealand. 3.        Updated – Frequently asked questions related to PPE and COVID-19 for the health and disability sector (11 June 2020)  Link to document ·        This document replaces the Frequently Asked Questions (29 May 2020). ·        The Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) have been updated to align with other Alert Level 1 guidance and provide additional information around Standard Precautions and Transmission Based Precautions (including Contact, Droplet and Airborne).   Please ensure your colleagues across the Health and Disability system are aware of these new resources. We are working to publish supporting guidance for some specific contexts over the next few days.  Also coming: The document most relevant for many disability services is likely to be published online tonight, so check in on the website later. This document applies the level 1 PPE guidance to people receiving support in their home. This is an updated version of the poster Alert Level 1: Person protective equipment (PPE) for community care providers who are providing care in people’s place of residence. Acknowledging that these documents will continue to be reviewed and updated, we’d appreciate your ongoing  feedback to help inform future guidance.
